ABOUT THE
RETROSONICS
The Retrosonics played their first gig on 20 April 2008 at
the Fremantle Jazz Club following six months of writing and
rehearsing the music. The band was founded by leader, Roger
Garrood to play a mixture of soul and blues in a big band
setting. Gigs have included Freo Jazz, PJS @ Charles Hotel
and York Jazz & Soul Festival. Stage one: to prepare a
working library of 'standards' partly from the Motown era
and Stage two: compose original tunes and lyrics to use on a
CD. Stage one is very well developed and work has started on
stage 2. This information will be updated as progress
continues.

The Retrosonics is an emerging WA band conceived and
directed by jazz sax musician Roger Garrood. Blues, Soul,
Funk and Motown are all included in the band's repertoire.
This larger than usual ensemble offers scope for composers
and arrangers to be musically creative. The band draws it's
influences from Ray Charles, Etta James, Aretha Franklin,
Tower of Power, Kool and the Gang and a host of others.
Popular local venues where the band has performed are
Fremantle Jazz, Perth Jazz Society, Devills nightclub and
the York Jazz and Soul Festival.
Tonights program will be rich in Soul, Motown and Funk. So
far every gig the band has played they have been invited
back for repeat performances. Currently preparing for
their first CD recording, music lovers would be advised to
follow the musical progress of this young ensemble on

The Retrosonics featured vocalist for this event will be the
respected and popular soul singer Jeannie Norris.
