The blues band,
BLOOZOLOGY was
formed in 2007 and consists of some of the most
experienced musicians in Perth. The band is: Alan Lyford
(Vocals / Bass), Alan McCowat (Vocals / Guitar), Mike
Nelson (Vocals / Keyboards), Jim Cook (Sax) and Vince
Pavitt (Drums).
Alan Lyford has recorded for Phillips Fontana
Records (Singapore), has recorded with many local artists
and backed many interstate artists. He was lead singer
with the fusion band, 'Manteca' when they were recorded
for national broadcast by the ABC. He has played with the
Doobie Brothers and Simply Red, supported Suzie Quatro,
Lou Rawls, America, Tom Jones, Roberta Flack and toured
with Ian Moss (Cold Chisel). He is currently recording an
album of his original compostitions.
Alan McCowat has been playing professionally since
the mid 60s. He has played with many of Perth's best know
bands such as The Times, Grapevine, The Teddy Bears, The
Zodiacs, Ray Charles Tribute Show and the Troupadores. He
has worked with many international artists such as: The
Drifters, The Platters, Warren Mitchell, Darryl
Braithwaite, Johnny Young, Normie Rowe, Denise Drysdaye
and Col Elliot.
Mike Nelson helped establish Jazz Studies at WAAPA
and has lectured at UWA, ANU as well as performed in
concert in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra. His
quartet toured India for the 1990 International Jazz
Yatra and he has toured extensively throughout Great
Britain and Europe. Many of his compositions and
arrangements (including his CD 'Celebration') have been
recorded and broadcast by the ABC. He has worked with
many international artists including Mark Murphy, Milt
Jackson, Shirley Bassey, James Morrison, Don Burrows,
Debbie Reynolds Red Rodney and Jerry Lewis.
Jim Cook has worked with many local, interstate
and international bands and artists during his extensive
career. He has performed at the International Jazz Yatra
Festival in India and the Houston Arts Festival and over
the years has performed at the various jazz clubs in
Perth with many local jazz bands and visiting artists.
For twenty years he tutored in Jazz Studies at the WA
Academy of Performing Arts. Recently he played with the
Perth Blues Band, Vdelli.
Vince Pavitt has been playing drums professionaly
since the age of 13. Originally from South Africa, Vince
has played and recorded many styles in blues, jazz,
gospel and rock bands. From 1999 he worked in New Zealand
where he played with with many international artists at
Auckland's famous jazz venue, The London Bar including
Roy Phillips and Bruce Kerr of the Peddlers, Nathan
Haines, the Andy Brown Trio backing American singer,
Azure McCall. He has performed in concert with American
jazz trumpeter Bobby Shew backed by the Auckland
Philharmonic at the Aotea Center. He tutored in drums at
the Avondale College and also taught for Auckland's
Massey Unversity Conservatorium.
In March 2007,
BLOOZOLOGY
performed its debut concert at the Charles Hotel for the
Perth Blues
Club and has since performed a variety of concerts
including The Ellington Jazz Club and Jazz Fremantle
(Navy Club)
